food literacy appeal

Food Literature Fire/Flood Appeal

The Children’s Food Education Foundation is appealing for donations of food literature for distribution to schools, communities and families affected by the recent natural disasters in Australia.

The horrendous impact of the Victorian Bushfires is so immense every little bit of kindness and generosity will make a difference. Also recent floods have devastated many in QLD and NSW.

Losing a favourite cookbook, gardening book or food magazine may not seem important when compared to the loss of a loved one, a home or a livelihood, but we know the simple acts of growing food, cooking and eating a meal together will serve to heal in their own special way.

We plan to aid the disaster relief by replacing food related books and magazines with either second-hand or new literature. Kennards are supporting us with free storage in Melbourne and Sydney so we can wait and deliver to communities when they are finally back in their vegetable plots and kitchens.

Thanks to the generosity of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, ArtPlay and City of Melbourne you can deliver your donations during festival events as follows:

  • Sat 14Mar "Connex Sizzle!” near the Global Chargrill BBQ stage 12–5pm
  • Sun 15Mar “Wicked Sunday” at the info tent on Fed Square 12–4pm
  • Fri 20Mar ArtPlay, Birrarung Marr (behind Fed Square) 10am–12pm
  • Sat 21Mar ArtPlay, Birrarung Marr (behind Fed Square) 9am–3pm

If you can’t make it to the above locations, donations can also be dropped off at
these Kennards locations from 16th March until further notice.

  • Kennards Storage, 159 Racecourse Road (enter via Stubbs St), Flemington
  • Kennards Storage, 1-7 Mann Street, Chatswood

We will accept any sort of recipe books, cookbooks, food magazines, food texts, food pictures, DVDs, CDs or food-related stories (like for instance Dr Seuss “Green Eggs & Ham”).

Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your work colleagues and organise a centralised storage point - if you end up with a shedload - we will collect.

Or, buy some food literature online and have it delivered direct to us at Children’s Food Education Foundation PO Box 137 Benalla VIC 3671.

Many Thanks in Anticipation!

our cause is your cause at mycause.com.au

We have just registered the Foundation with mycause.com.au so now you can earn some good karma by being creative, convivial and benevolent all at the same time!! The idea is to setup a fundraising target page (donating to us of course) then get loads of folks to sponsor your cause (that'd be our cause too). Your fundraising ideas do not have to be food, nutrition, health or education related, but it makes sense, so:

  • host a magnificent dinner party and collect donations
  • create a cook-a-thon and get sponsored
  • improve your fitness, achieve your goals using donations as incentive
  • raise funds to buy cooking equipment for your local school
  • raise funds to establish a community or school kitchen garden
  • use your skills to improve food service to children in return for donations

The possibilities are endless and the funds raised can be directed to the CFEF project you feel most passionate about. Or, think of a project for your own community, contact us and make that your cause.

CFEF @ mycause.com.au

No time for your own cause? Then please donate to Kay's cause (because it is our cause too). Kay wants all her friends and folks who reckon she's doing some good to help her out by donating funds for the cost of administering the Foundation. It will only take a minute and will make you (and Kay) feel real good.
